3rd Bar Sagi Awards Event

The awards event for the third Bar Sagi Young Poets Prize competition, was held via Zoom, as before, on April 26th 2022, together with the awards event for the 2021 Reuben Rose Competition.

Holding the joint event by Zoom enables many more people to attend, including our overseas members, thus giving our young poets an impressive audience to showcase their achievements.

Around 45 people registered for the event and 40 managed to attend it, not only from Israel but also from the UK, the USA and Canada.

Professor Anthony Joseph, Bar’s grandfather and the sponsor of this prize, gave a moving account of Bar and her poetry, and showed two videos of her work from the “Echoes of Bar” series: “Journey”, a poem of Bar’s set to music by Lior Soltz and Tzlil Rubinstein and sung by Tzlil Rubinstein  (viewable on YouTube here), and “Just Me”, another of her poems, again set to music by Lior Soltz and sung by Tzlil Rubinstein  ( viewable on YouTube here).

The competition administrator, Susan Bell, then  gave an overview of the competition and its judging,

The other highlight of the event was of course hearing the three winning poems, and the sole one which received an Honourable Mention, read by the young poets: “White Noise” by Sapir (Hila) Frumkin, age 15, which won first prize; “Empty Seats by Eliav Huppert, age 18 (second prize), and “Comfort” by Amiad Dror Golan, age 17 (third prize). Sapir was also awarded an Honorable Mention for her poem “Coral”. To read and download all four poems click here (PDF file).

We recorded the event via Zoom and the video is on the Voices Israel YouTube channel; all our members and everyone registered for the event has received a link. Feel free to share it with whoever you like!
