Bar Sagi Prize Rules and Guidelines

  • The competition is open to Israelis aged 12 to 18 when the poem was written.
  • The submission period starts on November 15th and ends on the last day of February. For instance: from November 15th, 2023 to February 29th, 2024 inclusive. Submissions received after that period will not be considered.
  • There is no submission fee.
  • Poets may use their whole name, first name, or a pseudonym. We will not publish any contact information.
  • Poems may be in any style and on any subject. They must be in English.
  • Each poem must have no more than 41 lines, including stanza breaks (but not including title).
  • Poets submit by sending an email to barsagivoices@gmail.com with the following attachments:
    • ONE Word file containing up to three poems.
    • The entry form for the competition, downloaded and filled in (this is a Word file, it can be filled in without printing) including, if the poet is under 18 years old, the consent of the parent or guardian for him or her to enter the competition. Again, the entry form can be downloaded via this link.
  • Entries without an entry form, or with an entry form that has not been completely filled in, will not be considered for the prize.
  • Poems must be previously unpublished.
  • The poets retain sole copyright of their poems.
  • Prizes will be presented by Bar Sagi’s family, and the winning poets and Honorable Mention recipients will read their poems, at a prize-giving ceremony held by Voices Israel.
  • The winning poems, and Honorable Mention poems if there are any, will be published as a separate “Bar Sagi Prize” section in the annual Voices Israel anthology.  By entering the competition, the poet, and the poet’s parent or guardian if the poet is under 18 years old, agree to this publication of any poem that wins a prize or Honorable Mention.
