June 2023 Zoom Workshop

Crossroads: The Choices We Make

On June 19th we held a single-session Zoom mini-workshop, “Crossroads: The Choices We Make.” Dina Yehuda led us in a consideration of how the choices we make affect our life, using as example the Biblical story of Naomi, Ruth and Orpah and using paintings from different eras, verses from the Megillah and a section of a poem by Keats to consider the story of these three women.

Dina is a wonderful presenter and feedback was very enthusiastic.

The presentation was, as usual, followed by an exercise: to write a poem based on the Biblical story, or more generally about an important life choice; or a poem inspired by one of the paintings used in the handout.

As usual for Zoom workshops, we prepared an e-chapbook (PDF file) which was distributed to all the participants. As the cover picture for the chapbook we chose the modern Chinese artist He Qi’s abstract and very colourful painting (see the cover above), since most of those who chose to write a poem inspired by a painting chose his as their source of inspiration.

We did not record this workshop and so have no screenshots, but below are screenshots of the other material included in Dina’s handout, to give the feel of the event:
